Terms of use

Effective date: October 15, 2026

Operator: VinDev Corp (“VinDev,” “we,” “us”)

Contact: [email protected]

These terms are an agreement between you and VinDev Corp for the Book Neko Android app. By installing or using Book Neko, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The service

Book Neko is a personal book catalog. You can keep a library of books you own, a wish list, a reading queue, and notes. Book metadata is retrieved from Hardcover. Google sign-in, Drive backup, and shared shelves are optional.

VinDev does not host your catalog. Entries stay on your phone unless you back them up or share a shelf through your Google account. Features that depend on Hardcover, Google, a camera, or a network connection may be unavailable when those services or permissions are unavailable.

Book Neko is provided at no charge. If we later offer a paid feature, we will show the price and any renewal terms before you pay.

Who may use Book Neko

You must be at least 13 years old to use Book Neko. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the app only with a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms.

You are responsible for the phone, Google account, and Hardcover account you use with the app, and for keeping those accounts secure.

Your content

You keep ownership of the notes, ratings, shelf locations, photos, and other content you add. So that the app can work, you give VinDev a limited permission to store that content on your device and, only when you use the feature, to send it to Google Drive for backup or to publish the shared-shelf file described in the Privacy Policy. This permission ends when the content is deleted, except for copies that remain in a Drive backup or a shared file until you delete them, and except for temporary copies created in the ordinary operation of Google or your device.

You are responsible for the content you add and for who you send a share link or share code to. A shared shelf is readable by anyone who has the link or code. Do not put information on a shared shelf that you are not allowed to publish.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Book Neko to break the law, or to infringe someone else’s copyright, privacy, or other rights
  • Probe, scan, or attack the app, Hardcover, or Google, or try to get around access limits or authentication
  • Overload or disrupt Hardcover or Google, including by automated scraping through the app
  • Reverse engineer the app except where a law expressly allows it
  • Misrepresent your identity in a shared shelf in order to deceive someone

We may stop providing the app, or refuse support, if you violate these terms.

Third-party services

Hardcover and Google are separate services. Your use of them is also governed by their terms and privacy policies. VinDev does not control those services and is not responsible for their outages, data practices, or decisions to refuse or revoke access.

Book descriptions, covers, reviews, and other catalog data come from Hardcover and from information you enter. That data can be incomplete or wrong. Book Neko does not guarantee that a listing, ISBN match, or cover is accurate.

If you downloaded Book Neko from Google Play, Google’s store terms also apply to the download and to billing, if any.

Our intellectual property

VinDev owns the Book Neko app, its design, and its branding, excluding your content and third-party materials. These terms do not give you any ownership of the app. You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Book Neko on Android devices you own or control, in line with these terms.

Hardcover names, book listings, and cover images remain subject to the rights of their owners. Google names and services remain Google’s.

Backup and sharing

Drive backup and shared shelves can fail, be delayed, or be overwritten by another phone signed into the same Google account. Book Neko is not an archive service. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. Uninstalling the app does not delete files already stored in your Google Drive.

Disclaimers

Book Neko is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent allowed by law, VinDev disclaims warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement, and any warranty that the app will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that catalog data or backups will be accurate or preserved.

Some places do not allow certain disclaimers. In those places, the disclaimers apply only as far as the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, VinDev and its directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or the cost of substitute services, arising out of or related to Book Neko or these terms, even if we have been advised of the possibility.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, VinDev’s total liability for any claim arising out of these terms or the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid VinDev for Book Neko in the twelve months before the claim or fifty U.S. dollars (US $50). Book Neko is currently offered at no charge.

These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such a limit is prohibited.

Changes, suspension, and ending use

We may update these terms by posting a new version and changing the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide notice in the app or on the distribution page before it takes effect, where it is practical to do so. If you keep using Book Neko after the update, you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and uninstall it.

We may change, suspend, or stop Book Neko, or any feature, at any time. You may stop using Book Neko at any time by uninstalling it. Sections that by their nature should continue, including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law, survive after you stop using the app.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a mandatory consumer-protection law where you live gives you rights these terms cannot waive, those rights still apply.
